Why It’s Important: I want people that are LGBTQ+ to know what resources are available to them, as there is a lot out there. That way, there will be less mental health issues, suicide attempts, and more self-awareness and accepting in this community in the present and the future.

Why It’s Important: Autistic burnout is more common than both neurodivergent and neurotypical people realize. Therefore, I want more people to know what to do when it happens.

Why It’s Important: Because Black people have faced the most oppression in this country, I want to include recourses for suicide prevention so that it can go down. The reason why is because suicide is very common in this group.

Why It’s Important: In the book the author introduces many different concepts/sayings that we hear from our elders but never understand the gravity of it. Learning about concepts like how we block our own blessings by doubting ourselves or making excuses for things that aren’t in our control. Another concept brought up is making assumptions, it teaches us that we have a premade idea of what things might be like which prevents the space to grow. Learning about these concepts in a holistic view helps us be wiser.

Why It’s Important: As first generation students it feels really easy to get lost in a high education where no one around you knows how to get there. Feeling supported and encouraged something so foreign enables you to succeed in the long run because of the right opportunities.

Why It’s Important: These programs enable low income students all around San Diego to join clubs, sports and extracurriculars for free. Helping students stay out of trouble with keeping them busy with recreational activities.

Why It’s Important: We all can get caught up in the busy-ness of our lives. There is always something else to do, someone else to talk to, another scholarship to apply to, another award to win. The Body Scan helps us get back in touch with our true selves, to understand the thoughts and feelings coming up in any given moment, and to ground back into what is in alignment with our values.

Who this is for: Anyone in need of grounding, re-centering, or connecting with yourself
